Influenza in child care services (Updated: 10 June 2009)

As winter approaches, it is common that some child care professionals and children in child care will be affected by seasonal influenza or colds. With the recent reports of Swine Influenza, there is heightened awareness around the need for effective hygiene practices and precautions to reduce the spread of infectious diseases.

The Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing website has information about Swine Influenza and has established a Hotline (telephone 180 2007) to provide more information to the public.

NCAC has produced the following resources that may assist services to maintain effective hygiene and reduce the spread of infectious diseases:

NCAC is minimising the risk of swine flu being contracted by encouraging Validators to maintain effective hygiene practices, to seek medical advice if flu-like symptoms occur and to stay informed. For further information please feel free to speak with a Child Care Adviser 1300 236 554.
